Privacy Policy for Snaptab
Effective Date: March 15, 2026
Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Snaptab ("we", "our", or "the extension") collects, processes, stores, and shares your information when you use our Chrome extension. We are committed to complying with the Google Chrome Web Store's user data privacy policy.
1. Data Collection
To provide tab management services and user accounts, Snaptab may collect or access the following data:
- Account Information & Passwords: When you create an account or log in directly through our extension, we collect your email address and password for authentication and login purposes.
- Tabs & URLs: We access tab titles and URLs to display, group, and organize them as requested by the user.
- Favicons: We retrieve website icons to help you visually identify your tabs.
- Cookies: We may access cookies to maintain session states for specific tab management features.
- Third-party Authentication: If you use the sync feature or log in via third-party providers (like Google), we use OAuth2 (Google Identity) to collect your email address and basic profile information.
Note: We do not collect your broad browsing history outside the scope of the tab management features requested by you.
2. Data Processing
The collected data is processed strictly for the following purposes:
- To securely authenticate your identity (using your email and password, or OAuth token) to allow access to your account and premium features.
- To provide the core functionality of organizing, categorizing, and managing browser tabs in a Kanban-style interface.
- To synchronize your preferences and tab groups securely across your logged-in devices.
- To automatically restore your workspace and active sessions when needed.
3. Data Storage
We are committed to ensuring your data is stored securely:
- Account Authentication Security: Your passwords used for login purposes are strongly hashed and encrypted before being securely stored on our servers. We never store or transmit passwords in plain text.
- Local Storage: Most data, including your custom groups, tabs, and settings, is stored locally on your device browser using the
chrome.storage API.
- Cloud Storage & Encryption: If you explicitly enable cloud synchronization via your account, your data is transmitted securely and stored on our servers. We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data against unauthorized access.
- Third-Party Website Passwords: We do not read, collect, or store any passwords you enter on other third-party websites while browsing. We only collect the password specifically created for your Snaptab account.
4. Data Sharing
We respect your privacy regarding the sharing of data:
- No Data Selling: We absolutely do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data, tab list, passwords, or browsing habits to any third parties for marketing or tracking purposes.
- Legal Compliance: We will only share your data if it is strictly necessary to comply with legal obligations, enforce our policies, or protect our rights.
5. Permissions Justification
Snaptab requests permissions such as tabs, storage, cookies, favicon, and identity only to perform its stated primary purpose of tab management and synchronization. We follow the "Principle of Least Privilege" and only request necessary access to function properly.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
